Rick and I spent the MLK holiday in Mexico. We stayed at Ceiba del Mar resort in the Mexican Caribbean about halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The resort was a mini paradise. With only 88 rooms and about 20% occupancy, it was a lovely, quiet, relaxing retreat. We weren't too impressed with the food or service though, which makes it hard to justify ever returning given the rooms were pretty pricey. Here is the view from our 2nd floor suite overlooking the pool and ocean.

Our favorite part about this location was that we could walk out of our room and onto the beach, turn south, and walk about 15 minutes to the small fishing village of Puerto Morelos. The beach was clean and never crowded. The water was turquoise and warm. The sand was fine, white, and very soft. Here we are on the beach in front of our resort.
One day we went on a tour of the Mayan ruins at Tulum (south of Playa del Carmen.) The ruins are quite beautiful, very green and situated on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean.
We were there from Thursday-Monday. It was a very nice winter getaway.
